GUWAHATI: Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) co-convenor Ashutosh Ranka and several members of his team were reportedly detained by police in Guwahati on Sunday, September 27, ahead of the party’s regional volunteers’ meeting.

According to media reports, CJP members alleged that police prevented them from reaching the meeting venue at Chowdhury Tila and detained Ranka along with several volunteers while they were on their way to the programme.
The group further alleged that the venue for the meeting had been changed following pressure. The gathering was scheduled as a regional volunteers’ meeting of the CJP in Guwahati.
CJP founder Abhijeet Dipke criticised the reported detentions and questioned the Assam government over the police action.
Officials have not yet provided details on the exact number of people detained or the circumstances leading to the police action.
