According to a receipt issued by GMC on July 10, the penalty was levied under Ward No. 30 for stocking construction and demolition (C&D) waste on the road, causing obstruction to public movement. Visuals from the site showed heaps of debris-filled sacks and discarded materials piled up along the roadside, posing a hazard to pedestrians and vehicles alike.

A team of GMC officials, accompanied by enforcement personnel, carried out an inspection drive in the area before taking action against the violator and collecting the penalty amount on the spot.

Reacting to the development, GMC reiterated its commitment to keeping public roads free of obstruction and maintaining civic discipline across the city. "GMC remains committed to keeping public roads obstruction-free, ensuring civic discipline and maintaining a cleaner, safer city for everyone," the civic body said in a post made on X, urging residents to work together in keeping Guwahati clean and to follow civic regulations.

The corporation has been intensifying its crackdown on illegal dumping and unauthorised stocking of construction debris on city roads as part of its broader clean-city initiative.
