The stretch serves as a crucial link connecting major routes including GS Road, the APSC building, the Regional Science Centre and VIP Road, witnessing heavy vehicular movement throughout the day. Frequent congestion in the area has long been a concern for commuters and local residents alike.

As part of the initiative, GMC teams removed vendor encroachments and cleared illegally occupied spaces along the roadside. The drive was aimed at restoring public spaces and ensuring smoother mobility for vehicles and pedestrians.

The eviction drive is a part of ongoing efforts to streamline urban traffic management and improve road accessibility in rapidly growing areas of Guwahati. By clearing encroachments from key stretches, civic authorities hope to reduce bottlenecks and facilitate uninterrupted movement along the area.

The Science Museum-Khanapara stretch is considered strategically important due to its geographical proximity with several prominent institutions and roads leading towards the city’s eastern and southern areas. Traffic congestion in the area tends to increase significantly during office hours and peak commuting periods.
