Khera arrived at the Crime Branch office located at Pan Bazar during the day amid security presence in the area. Officials said questioning of the Congress leader was underway at the time of filing this report.

The Congress spokesperson, however, did not make any comment to the media before entering the Crime Branch office. Several mediapersons had gathered outside the premises since morning anticipating his appearance.

The case pertains to alleged controversial statements made by Khera targeting Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma during political exchanges in recent months. Following the remarks, an FIR was registered and the Assam Police Crime Branch initiated an investigation into the matter.

Security arrangements around the Pan Bazar office were tightened as a precautionary measure. Police personnel were deployed in the vicinity to maintain law and order during Khera’s visit. No untoward incident was reported.

The appearance of the senior Congress leader has once again sparked political reactions in the state. While Congress leaders have alleged misuse of investigative agencies against opposition voices, BJP leaders have maintained that the law is taking its own course.

Sources indicated that Crime Branch officials are examining various aspects related to the alleged statements and related materials as part of the ongoing probe. However, officials have not disclosed details of the questioning process.

Further developments are awaited as the interrogation continues.
