GUWAHATI: A 45-year-old man allegedly abducted from Guwahati’s Beltola area and held for a ransom of ₹6 lakh was rescued by police, who also arrested three accused persons and seized the vehicle allegedly used in the crime.

The case surfaced after Sabirul Islam, a resident of Kathal Road in Silchar, lodged a complaint alleging that his brother-in-law, Tariqul Islam (45), had been kidnapped by Abdul Gaffar of Sribhumi along with his associates.
According to the complaint, Tariqul had gone out for shopping from Tagar Homestay in the Beltola Wireless area when he was allegedly abducted. The accused subsequently demanded ₹6 lakh in exchange for his release.
Based on the complaint, Dispur Police registered a case under Section 140(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and launched an investigation.
During the operation, carried out with assistance from Harangajao Police Station in Dima Hasao district, police rescued the victim and apprehended the accused persons.
The arrested individuals have been identified as Abdul Gaffar (37) of Mazgram under Sribhumi Sadar Police Station, Sahab Uddin (38), also from Mazgram under Sribhumi Sadar Police Station, and Bikash Deka (36), the driver, from Baregaon under Baihata Chariali Police Station in Kamrup (Rural).
Police also seized the four-wheeler allegedly used in the offence. Officials said the vehicle did not bear a registration number plate.
Further legal proceedings are underway.
