GUWAHATI: Persistent traffic congestion near the Nepali Mandir area in Guwahati’s Paltan Bazar locality continues to disrupt daily movement, raising questions over traffic regulation and enforcement in one of the city’s busiest transit corridors.

The stretch frequently witnesses buses stopping for prolonged periods to pick up and drop passengers, resulting in long queues of vehicles and slow-moving traffic, particularly during peak hours. Despite the area remaining heavily crowded throughout the day, buses are often seen halting along the roadside, further narrowing the already congested stretch.
Concerns have also emerged over the movement of green city buses, which are often seen speeding through the busy corridor despite heavy pedestrian presence in the area.
The recurring congestion has once again brought attention to issues such as the lack of designated stopping spaces, poor lane discipline and inadequate monitoring of public transport movement in high-density areas like Paltan Bazar.
With the locality serving as a key commercial and transit hub, the situation has raised questions over whether stricter enforcement against roadside stoppages, better traffic regulation and improved public transport management are needed to ease the daily chaos and improve commuter safety in the area.
