Guwahati-Based Businessman Arrested In Fake ITC Scam Worth Over ₹12 Crore


 

GUWAHATI: One Hrishikesh Kalita, proprietor of M/S Saibya Traders has been apprehended by GST Intelligence officials on Wednesday, July 8, over charges of availing fake Input Tax Credit (ITC) worth over ₹12 crore.

According to officials, the person was issuing fake invoices to various other taxpayers of Assam, Arunachal, Nagaland, and Meghalaya. They added that several other persons are also involved in the fake ITC scam.

The operation by GST Intelligence and Enforcement Unit, Assam, led by Monuj Kr Dowari led, was done on July 6. 

Hrishikesh Kalita has been arrested from Bajali with the help of police. 

“His mobile number was traced, and he was found to be hiding at a hotel in Bajali,” an official said.

He was soon produced before the Chief Judicial Magistrate, and subsequently sent for 5 days remand.

According to officials, one CA firm is also under the radar of the GST authorities.

Kalita, originally from Nalbari, is a resident of Kahilipara, Guwahati.
