GUWAHATI: Around 8 lakh devotees and visitors flocked to the Kamakhya temple during Ambubachi Mahayog 2026, Assam Tourism stated on June 26, Friday, as the portals of the temple opened for the public.

The Ambubachi Mahayog attracted 75 foreign devotees in 2026, the tourism department said.
Last year, the number of devotees or visitors to the Ambubachi Mahayog was 772,019 and 42 foreign devotees or visitors.
Tourism Minister Ajanta Neog thanked the devotees, saints, pilgrims and tourists who came to the Ambubachi Mela and urged them to come to visit this holy temple in the future.
She said the Ambubachi Mela, which gives a unique dimension to the tourism potential of Assam, perfectly reflects the 'Atithi Devo Bhava' ideal of Indian culture.
She hoped that the Ambubachi Mela, which has become a meeting place of spirituality, faith, harmony and devotion, would continue to establish the rich spiritual heritage of the state.
She thanked every department of the government for their assistance in the smooth conduct of the fair and the NGOs for their assistance.
The portals of the Kamakhya Temple opened early morning on Friday, June 26, allowing devotees to offer prayers.
The reopening of the sanctum marks the end of the three-day period during which the temple remains closed, symbolising the annual menstruation cycle of the Goddess.
