Assam CM Holds Key Talks with Union Finance Minister, Discuss Infrastructure, Investment Plans


 

GUWAHATI: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma met Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman in New Delhi on Saturday, May 23, to discuss a roadmap for the state’s future growth and development.

In a message shared on social media after the meeting, the Chief Minister said he thanked Sitharaman for the “constant support extended to Assam” and discussed the state’s development priorities for the coming years.

Chief Secretary Ravi Kota and Additional Chief Secretary to the Chief Minister K K Dwivedi were also present during the meeting.

According to an official press release, the discussions covered various aspects related to Assam’s economic growth, infrastructure expansion and investment potential. Issues related to financial assistance, developmental projects and future investment opportunities were also part of the discussions between the two leaders.

The meeting also underscored the growing coordination between the Assam government and the Centre in implementing development programmes. The press release said that in recent years, Assam has seen investments across sectors such as roads, railways, healthcare, education and energy, alongside efforts to improve ease of doing business and attract private investment.

The state government has maintained that continued support from the Centre remains crucial for Assam’s long-term development and economic transformation.

The Chief Minister said the discussions focused on preparing a roadmap for Assam’s growth in the years ahead, as the state positions itself as an emerging economic hub in the Northeast with emphasis on infrastructure, tourism, semiconductor manufacturing, green energy and connectivity projects.
