GUWAHATI: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Sunday, July 5, issued a Yellow Alert for heat wave conditions in 30 districts of Assam, warning of above-normal temperatures and hot, humid weather over the next two days.

According to an IMD press release, prevailing atmospheric conditions, coupled with mainly clear to partly cloudy skies and high solar insolation, are expected to push maximum temperatures above 35°C at several places across the plains of Assam.
The weather department said daytime temperatures are likely to remain 3°C to 5°C above normal during the next two days.
The districts under the Yellow Alert include Kokrajhar, Dhubri, South Salmara, Chirang, Bongaigaon, Barpeta, Goalpara, Kamrup, Kamrup (Metro), Darrang, Morigaon, Sonitpur, Nagaon, Hojai, West Karbi Anglong, Karbi Anglong, Dima Hasao, Cachar, Sribhumi, Hailakandi, Biswanath, Golaghat, Lakhimpur, Majuli, Jorhat, Dhemaji, Sivasagar, Dibrugarh, Charaideo and Tinsukia.
IMD data showed that Silchar recorded the state's highest maximum temperature at 38.6°C on Saturday, followed by Guwahati at 37.4°C, North Lakhimpur at 37°C, Jorhat at 36.4°C, Tezpur at 36.3°C and Dibrugarh at 36°C.
The department has advised residents to exercise caution, avoid prolonged exposure to direct sunlight during peak afternoon hours, remain adequately hydrated and follow official weather advisories.
The hot and humid conditions are expected to persist across much of the state over the next two days.
