Assam Cabinet Portfolios To Be Allocated on June 8, Assam CM Sarma Announces


 

GUWAHATI: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Monday, June 8, announced that portfolios will be allocated to the newly inducted ministers on Monday, enabling the expanded Cabinet to begin functioning in full capacity.

In a post on X, Sarma said, “Today, we will allocate portfolios to the Hon’ble Ministers so that we can begin working together for the progress and prosperity of Assam.”

The announcement comes days after 12 MLAs were sworn in as ministers in the Assam Cabinet on June 5 at a ceremony held at the Jyoti-Bishnu Antarjatik Kala Mandir in Guwahati. The oath of office and secrecy was administered in the presence of Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya and Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.

The ministers inducted into the Cabinet are Ashwini Ray Sarkar, Ashok Singhal, Bimal Borah, Biswajit Daimary, Jayanta Mallabaruah, Kaushik Rai, Keshab Mahanta, Krishnendu Paul, Nilima Devi, Pijush Hazarika, Ranoj Pegu and Susanta Borgohain.

Earlier, Sarma had taken oath as Chief Minister on May 12 along with four ministers, Ajanta Neog, Rameswar Teli, Atul Bora of the Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) and Charan Boro of the Bodoland People's Front (BPF), following the formation of the new government.

In the 126-member Assam Legislative Assembly, the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) secured a decisive victory in the recently concluded Assembly elections, winning 102 seats. The BJP emerged with 82 seats, while its alliance partners, the AGP and the BPF, won 10 seats each.

The NDA government is serving its third consecutive term in Assam, having first come to power in 2016 under former Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal.
