The announcement was made by Auniati Satra Satradhikar Dr. Pitambar Dev Goswami following his recent visit to London. He said the bus is currently being manufactured in Jalandhar and is expected to be officially launched during the upcoming Raas Purnima celebrations.
According to Dr. Goswami, the double-decker bus is intended to offer tourists a distinctive sightseeing experience while strengthening Majuli's appeal as one of Assam's key cultural and heritage destinations.
Addressing the media, Dr. Goswami also announced that British researcher Richard Blurton will be conferred the Sankardev Research Award 2026, while UK Member of Parliament Bob Blackman will receive the Sri Sri Damodardev Award 2026.
He said the honours recognise their contributions to promoting the teachings of Srimanta Sankardev, Madhavdev and Damodardev, as well as Assamese Vaishnavite culture, in the United Kingdom. The awards will be presented through the Majuli Samanway Mancha.
Dr. Goswami thanked both awardees for helping bring Assam's Vaishnavite heritage to a global audience and expressed hope that initiatives such as the introduction of the double-decker bus and continued cultural outreach would further strengthen Majuli's tourism potential and international recognition.
