GUWAHATI: The 14th meeting of the High-Powered Review Board (HPRB) of the Brahmaputra Board will be held in Guwahati on Tuesday, May 19, to review the progress of river basin management initiatives and discuss the future roadmap of the Board, according to a press release on Monday, May 19.

The meeting will be chaired by Union Jal Shakti Minister C.R. Paatil. Union Minister for Ports, Shipping and Waterways Sarbananda Sonowal and Minister of State for Jal Shakti Raj Bhushan Choudhary will also attend the session along with senior officials from the Centre and Northeastern states, technical experts and other stakeholders.
The meeting comes after the recent reconstitution of the HPRB, which has expanded its membership to include Sikkim and West Bengal. It also coincides with the ongoing efforts to transform the Brahmaputra Board into a modern, knowledge-based River Basin Organization (RBO).
According to the press release, the Board has been implementing several projects across the Northeast and West Bengal focusing on river basin masterplans, flood and erosion management, springshed rejuvenation, drainage development, digital transformation, institutional restructuring and capacity building.
During the meeting, the Board will review the implementation status of decisions taken during the 13th HPRB meeting and assess the overall performance and functioning of the organisation.
Discussions are also expected on organisational restructuring, reforms in masterplan preparation, strengthening of digital governance systems, redevelopment of the Brahmaputra Board office complex at Basistha, and the revitalisation of the North Eastern Hydraulic and Allied Research Institute (NEHARI).
The event will also feature the release of books and documentaries highlighting traditional and indigenous water management practices of the Northeast, aimed at promoting sustainable water conservation practices in the region.
