Govt Allows LPG Restoration Option for Consumers Shifting to PNG

GUWAHATI: The Centre has amended the Liquefied Petroleum Gas (Regulation of Supply and Distribution) Order, 2026, allowing domestic LPG consumers who obtain Piped Natural Gas (PNG) connections to either apply for termination of their LPG connection within 30 days or secure a transfer voucher for future restoration of the connection in non-PNG areas.

The amendment, notified by the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas on May 25, aims to provide greater flexibility and convenience to households shifting to PNG-based cooking fuel systems.

Under the revised provisions, consumers opting for PNG connections can either apply for termination of their LPG connection within the stipulated period or retain the option of restoring the LPG connection later through a transfer voucher if they relocate to areas where PNG infrastructure is unavailable.

The government said the move would particularly benefit transferable employees, migrant households, tenants, students and families shifting to non-PNG regions.

According to the notification, the amendment seeks to address practical difficulties faced by consumers who may subsequently shift to areas where PNG infrastructure may not be feasible.
