Guwahati’s Tripura Road Garbage Transit Point to Be Shifted to Panjabari

GUWAHATI: Residents and commuters using Tripura Road in Guwahati’s Beltola area have long complained about heaps of garbage dumped along the busy stretch, which currently functions as a transit point for the Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC).

The roadside waste accumulation has raised concerns over foul smell, unhygienic conditions, and inconvenience to daily commuters and pedestrians.

Speaking to GPlus, area ward councillor Ashish Bharali said the existing transit point will be shifted to a new refuse transfer station-cum-material recovery facility being constructed at Juripar in Panjabari.

“We will shift this site once the Panjabari facility is ready, which is expected in around six to seven months. Waste from nearby areas will then be processed there, while the remaining waste will be transported to the Boragaon dumpsite,” Bharali said.

According to GMC officials, the upcoming facility is expected to improve waste processing in nearby localities and help reduce the roadside garbage accumulation currently seen on Tripura Road.
