GUWAHATI: No-vending regulations on M.S. Road and H.B. Road in Fancy Bazar will take effect from September 1, 2026, with commercial vehicles allowed on the two roads only between 9 pm and 7 am as part of measures to regulate traffic and parking in the busy commercial area.

Public vehicle parking, as well as the use of handcarts and pushcarts, will be permitted on the roads. The same traffic and parking provisions will apply to S.S. Road, although the date for bringing the no-vending regulation there into force will be decided separately.
The decisions were taken at a meeting chaired by Minister of Housing and Urban Affairs, etc. Kaushik Rai at the Office Conference Hall of the District Commissioner, Kamrup Metropolitan, on Saturday.
The meeting reviewed the implementation of the decision to declare S.S. Road, M.S. Road and H.B. Road as no-vending zones. Mayor, GMC Mrigen Sarania; District Commissioner, Kamrup Metropolitan Swapnil Paul; Commissioner, GMC Chinmoy Prakash Phukan; DCP (Traffic) Jayanta Sarathi Bora; and senior officials of Assam Police, GMC and other concerned departments attended the meeting.
Rai stressed the need for coordination among the departments concerned to ensure smooth implementation. He directed officials to ensure that the measures improve traffic flow, enhance pedestrian safety and facilitate better management of vending activities in the commercial area.
According to the minister, the initiative is aimed at making Fancy Bazar more organised, accessible and safer while ensuring smooth movement of commuters and orderly commercial activities.
