According to the Guwahati Tea Auction Buyers Association, a premium line of CTC leaf from Deckiajuli Tea Estate was sold for ₹1,103 per kg, while another line from the same estate fetched ₹973 per kg at auction. The estate, owned by Parry Agro Industries Ltd., has been focusing on the production of premium-quality teas.
In another notable sale, tea from Sotai Tea Estate fetched ₹889 per kg, the highest price ever recorded for the garden.
GTAC Secretary Dinesh Bihani stated that during Sale No. 23, more than 65,000 kilograms of tea were sold at prices above ₹400 per kg, indicating strong buyer interest in high-quality teas being offered through the auction platform.
The tea sector has also received support from the Assam government, which recently announced a ₹15 per kg subsidy for orthodox tea manufacturers to encourage production and growth in the segment.
Currently recognised as the world's second-largest auction centre for CTC tea, GTAC is aiming to expand its presence in the orthodox tea market as well. Industry stakeholders believe this could attract more export buyers and facilitate greater direct exports through the auction system.
