The sight of heaps of waste along the roadside triggered concerns over cleanliness and public hygiene, especially on one of the city’s frequently used roads.
Speaking to GPlus, the ward councillor of the area said, “The location serves as a waste transit point where GMC workers temporarily keep the garbage collected from surrounding areas. Usually, the waste is cleared by morning itself. However, due to today’s, oath taking ceremony, dumpers were unable to operate on the highway and transport the waste to the Boragaon dumpsite. The garbage will be cleared by tonight."
Speaking to GPlus, a daily commuter said that garbage remains piled up in the area throughout the day. According to the commuter, although some of the waste is cleared in the evenings, large heaps of garbage accumulate again by the next morning, causing inconvenience and unhygienic conditions for the public.
Residents, meanwhile, expressed concern over garbage being kept in the open during daytime hours near a place of worship and along a busy public road.
