GUWAHATI: The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has swung into action after continuous rainfall since Sunday afternoon triggered flash flooding at Jorabat, causing significant disruption to traffic on the national highway.

In an official statement, NHAI said the flooding caused temporary inconvenience to road users in the area. Restoration efforts were initiated immediately, with teams deployed on-site to carry out water drainage and mud clearance operations on a priority basis to restore normal traffic conditions at the earliest.

A worker at the site said, "We reached here immediately after the landslide and started work. We worked overnight and cleared one lane to make it operational." He added that the remaining metal debris and concrete rubble would be cleared soon.

Heavy machinery, including excavators, is being used to clear accumulated mud and silt from the affected stretch, while vehicles continue to queue amid the ongoing restoration work.

NHAI has advised commuters to exercise caution while travelling through the affected stretch and to follow the directions of personnel deployed at the site. The authority reiterated its commitment to ensuring safe and seamless travel and thanked commuters for their patience during the restoration work.

The Jorabat stretch is a key route connecting Guwahati with Meghalaya and other parts of the region. The disruption comes amid a series of flooding and waterlogging incidents reported across Assam's road network in recent days, including diversions near 9th Mile and 10th Mile following heavy rainfall.
