The decision was taken as a precautionary measure after the India Meteorological Department (IMD) predicted moderate to widespread rainfall in Jammu and Kashmir between July 19 and 23.
"In view of the inclement weather forecast issued by the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the Shri Amarnathji Yatra shall remain temporarily suspended from both the Pahalgam and Baltal routes with effect from July 19 as a precautionary measure to ensure the safety and well-being of the pilgrims," Kashmir Divisional Commissioner Anshul Garg reportedly said in a statement.
Authorities said the pilgrimage will resume only after weather conditions improve and the routes are assessed to be safe for devotees. Further updates regarding the resumption of the yatra will be issued in due course.
Rainfall began early Sunday across parts of Kashmir, with cloudbursts also reported in forest areas. Officials said the suspension was aimed at preventing any risk to pilgrims amid the adverse weather conditions.
