Speaking to the media after taking charge of the Transport Department, Boro appealed to citizens to consciously reduce fuel consumption by choosing buses and trains over personal vehicles whenever possible.
He said even a small reduction in the use of private vehicles could help ease the pressure caused by rising fuel costs and contribute to better fuel management during the current situation.
The Minister also stated that the Assam government has already initiated measures to cut down unnecessary fuel usage within departments. He said that official convoy movements and district-level visits have been reduced, while several departmental meetings are now being conducted virtually to minimise travel.
Boro said the same approach could be adopted by the public, adding that people should consider reducing non-essential travel and rely more on shared or public transportation during the period of high fuel prices.
The Minister mentioned that he had only recently assumed charge of the department and was yet to hold detailed meetings with officials. However, he said a comprehensive review of transport infrastructure, policies and operational challenges would begin shortly.
