GUWAHATI: Assam athlete Deepan Medhi delivered a standout performance at the Ironman triathlon held in Vietnam on Sunday, May 10, completing the gruelling endurance race in 13 hours, 11 minutes and 24 seconds, well within the official cut-off time of 17.5 hours.

Medhi finished the race at approximately 7:48 pm after a day-long test of endurance and stamina, emerging as one of the strong finishers in the competition. The event, held in Da Nang, began at around 6:30 am.

The Ironman triathlon is globally regarded as one of the most demanding sporting events, testing an athlete’s physical and mental endurance to the extreme. Participants are required to complete a 3.8-kilometre sea swim, followed by a 180-kilometre cycling segment and a full 42.2-kilometre marathon run.

Medhi’s performance marks a significant milestone for Assam, and he is regarded as the first athlete from the state in the 30–32 age group category to complete the Ironman event with such a competitive timing.

This is not his first major international endurance achievement. Earlier in February this year, Medhi completed the Ironman 70.3 event held in Colombo, Sri Lanka.
