In a post on X on Tuesday, May 19, BIS said the action was initiated based on specific inputs received by the department, followed by a discreet investigation. The search and seizure operation was carried out on May 13, at the premises of Plascom Industries LLP.

According to BIS, the unit was found engaged in the manufacture and use of unauthorised ISI markings on polypropylene (PP) woven sacks used for packaging 25 kg polymer material, without a valid licence or authorisation.

“A total of 6.0 MT of PP woven sacks bearing unauthorised ISI markings were seized during the operation,” BIS Guwahati said.

Further investigation revealed that the products were being manufactured without BIS certification, despite falling under mandatory certification norms.

Polypropylene woven sacks used for packaging 25 kg polymer material are covered under Indian Standard IS 16703:2017 and are notified for compulsory certification by the Government of India.
