Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma shared details of the operation on X on Thursday, May 28, stating that the contraband was being transported in a truck using a concealed secret cavity.
“Another truck entered Assam carrying a ‘special delivery’ hidden inside a secret cavity. Unfortunately for them, Barpeta Police had already booked the return journey,” the Chief Minister wrote.
The seizure was made during a police operation carried out by Barpeta Police as part of the state government’s intensified campaign against drug trafficking and illegal liquor trade.
Assam Police has intensified anti-narcotics operations across the state in recent years, leading to multiple major seizures along key transit routes as part of the government’s crackdown on organised drug networks.
