According to the latest flood bulletin issued by the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA), Dhemaji, Nalbari, Dibrugarh, Chirang, Lakhimpur and Kokrajhar are currently affected by floods.
A total of 96 villages remain inundated, affecting 22,124 people. Dhemaji is the worst-affected district with 69 inundated villages, followed by Lakhimpur (13), Chirang (7), Kokrajhar (4), Nalbari (2) and Dibrugarh (1).
The floods have damaged 1690 hectares of crop area. No flood-related deaths have been reported so far. While no relief camps are currently operational, the state has set up six relief distribution centres to provide assistance to affected residents.
Meanwhile, the Disang River at Nanglamuraghat is flowing above the danger level.
The ongoing heavy rainfall has also affected railway operations in Upper Assam. Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) has suspended train services between Archipathar and Simen Chapari after severe riverbank erosion destabilised a railway bridge in Dhemaji district.
According to NFR, more than 110 mm of rainfall in and around Dhemaji triggered flooding and extensive erosion near the railway bridge at KM 408/11-13, forcing the suspension of train operations on the affected section.
Consequently, train movement on the Murkongselek–Silapathar route under the Tinsukia Division will remain suspended until further notice. Trains are being short-terminated and short-originated from Silapathar, while buses have been arranged to transport willing passengers between Murkongselek and Silapathar.
Amid the evolving flood situation, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said Union Home Minister Amit Shah had spoken to him to review the situation in Dhemaji.
"I thank Hon'ble Home Minister Shri Amit Shah ji for his phone call and enquiring about the flood situation in Dhemaji. I have briefed him on the relief and rehabilitation measures presently underway. He has also assured us all possible support and assistance from the Government of India to deal with this situation," Sarma said in a post on X.
