GUWAHATI: Contrary to reports suggesting that about ₹100 crore fake Indian foreign currency (FICN) being seized in Guwahati, police officials on Friday, July 3, said a total of ₹13.46 lakh counterfeit notes has been recovered in two different operations.

Five accused, three from Kanpur, Uttarakhand and two from Silapathar, Assam, were arrested.
The operations were carried out on June 30 and July 1 by Dispur Police Station, DCP East TR Pegu said.
The motive of the accused was to cheat innocent people, by exchanging fake notes for some deals, the top police official said.
"The quality of FICN is very poor, and can't mingle with the regular currency," he said.
The police official affirmed that the entire racket would be busted soon.
One of the accused had previously claimed before the media that ₹100 crore worth FICN was circulating in the market.
