GUWAHATI: Guwahati Police have carried out a series of anti-narcotics operations this week, seizing a combined total of approximately 291 grams of heroin across four separate raids in the city.
In the first operation, a CGPD team from Panbazar PS arrested a woman drug peddler, Mallika Begum (22) of 2 No. Rail Gate, after she was caught with 16 vials of heroin weighing 18.93 grams.

In a second raid, an EGPD team from Basistha PS raided a hideout at Khanapara and arrested three peddlers, Dipankar Saikia (23) of Jorhat, Bhaskar Borah (24), and Rahul Das (33), both from Guwahati. Officers recovered 60 vials of heroin weighing 73.73 grams.
Police also stated that 16 drug-addicted victims were rescued and sent to a rehabilitation centre for treatment.
In the third case, the CGPD team from Panbazar PS arrested three more peddlers Gokul Sarkar (19), Majirum Begum (25), and Ramesha Khatun (30) at 2 No. Rail Gate. Officers found 41.81 grams of heroin concealed inside five tobacco cans, along with 51 empty vials.
In the fourth and largest bust, a WGPD team from Fatasil Ambari PS, acting on intelligence, raided a hideout in the Birubari–Shankarpur area and arrested Nurul Haque (39) of Panbazar, Nitesh Singh (21) of Fancy Bazar, and Saleha Bibi (27) of Panbazar. The team seized 127 vials of heroin weighing 156.77 grams, along with cash worth ₹1,14,082 and three mobile phones.
The scale of these seizures within a single week signals a worrying rise in drug trafficking across Guwahati, spanning Rail Gate, Khanapara, and Birubari-Shankarpur. While police continue enforcement under anti substance abuse campaingn, the recurring busts highlight the urgent need for sustained vigilance and rehabilitation support.
