The "Team Europe" delegation will be led by Hervé Delphin, Ambassador of the European Union to India and Bhutan, and will include ambassadors and senior representatives from EU member states alongside European business executives.
During the visit, the delegation will hold a bilateral meeting with Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, while a business delegation led by the Federation of European Businesses in India (FEBI) will engage with state officials to identify investment opportunities and areas for commercial collaboration.
The visit is aligned with the priorities outlined in the EU-India Comprehensive Strategic Agenda adopted at the EU-India Summit in January 2026 and is aimed at strengthening economic partnerships between Europe and the North-Eastern states of Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Sikkim and Tripura.
Discussions will focus on sectors where Europe and the region share strong growth potential, including renewable and green energy, sustainable urban infrastructure, healthcare and pharmaceuticals, semiconductors and electronics manufacturing, tea and agri-food processing, flavours and fragrances, and AYUSH.
A key engagement during the visit will be the "Blue Valleys: Building Ecosystems and Value Chains between India and Europe" workshop, scheduled in Guwahati on June 9 and organised by the Government of Assam. The event will bring together European and Indian businesses to explore partnerships in sustainable industries, innovation and value-chain development.
The programme will also witness the launch of Assam's first Blue Valley Cluster, an industrial hub focused on fragrances, flavours, AYUSH and food processing. Developed under a public-private-people partnership (4P) model, the cluster seeks to connect Europe, North-East India and Bhutan through innovation, research, sustainable manufacturing and business collaboration.
The Blue Valleys initiative, introduced at the 2026 EU-India Summit, aims to promote industrial clusters, MSME linkages and sector-specific value-chain integration between India and Europe while supporting environmentally sustainable economic growth. Priority sectors identified under the initiative include clean energy, natural ingredients, bamboo-based industries, eco-friendly textiles, biotechnology, wellness and smart manufacturing.
By combining funding support, skills development and sustainability standards, the initiative seeks to create scalable business models that benefit local communities while linking them to European markets.
The visiting delegation will also tour Tata Electronics' semiconductor manufacturing facility in Assam, highlighting the state's growing role in India's high-tech manufacturing sector. The visit is expected to showcase Assam's industrial infrastructure and business environment while underlining the importance of the EU-India digital partnership under the Trade and Technology Council (TTC).
Ahead of the visit, Delphin said North-East India, with Assam at its core, possesses significant economic potential due to its resources, skilled workforce and rapid economic growth. He said initiatives such as Blue Valleys are intended to create long-term business partnerships between European and Indian companies and help translate broader EU-India cooperation into tangible projects at the state level.
The visit is expected to provide European investors with a closer look at Assam's industrial ecosystem and marks a significant step in deepening EU engagement with the North-East through trade, technology, sustainability and innovation partnerships.
