GUWAHATI: Indian National Congress (INC) has emerged as the single largest party in the 140-member Kerala Assembly, winning 63 seats, according to the Election Commission of India (ECI).
The Communist Party of India (Marxist) (CPI(M)) secured 26 seats, while the Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) won 22 seats. The Communist Party of India (CPI) bagged 8 seats, Kerala Congress secured 7 seats, and the Revolutionary Socialist Party (RSP) won 3 seats.
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) won 3 seats. Independent candidates secured 4 seats, while smaller parties, including the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), Revolutionary Marxist Party of India (RMPOI), Kerala Congress (Jacob), and the Communist Marxist Party Kerala State Committee (CMPKSC) won 1 seat each.
Among BJP winners, B.B. Gopakumar was elected from Chathannoor (Constituency 126) with 51,923 votes, defeating his nearest rival by 4,398 votes after 16 rounds of counting. In Kazhakkoottam (132), V. Muraleedharan secured victory with 46,564 votes, winning by a margin of 428 votes in 18 rounds of counting. In Nemom (135), Rajeev Chandrasekhar won with 57,192 votes, registering a margin of 4,978 votes after 25 rounds.
