On 12 May 2026, the BJP-led NDA government took oath for the third consecutive term in Assam. Therefore, it is natural that the expectations and aspirations of the people of the state are quite high. As citizens, we expect visible improvements from the new government, especially in the areas mentioned below.

A large number of educated youths in Assam are still facing unemployment. As citizens, we hope that the government will ensure a transparent and timely recruitment process for government jobs. At the same time, more employment opportunities should be created through the expansion of industries and the private sector. It is also essential to provide easy loans, training, and support to encourage startups and self-employment. Moreover, the government should focus on job-oriented skill development programmes according to present-day demands so that the youth become self-reliant and employable. A portion of the development budget should also be invested in career counselling, skill development, and self-employment opportunities for the youth to build a stronger future for the state.
Many students in Assam complete their schooling without having a clear understanding of the wide range of career opportunities available today. Most of them focus only on traditional professions such as medicine, engineering, teaching, or government jobs. However, in the modern world, there are vast opportunities in areas such as information technology, digital services, entrepreneurship, tourism, and agri-technology. Due to the lack of proper guidance, many young people fail to choose the right career path and remain unemployed or underemployed despite having educational qualifications. Therefore, establishing career counselling centres is extremely important. These centres can provide students with reliable information and guidance regarding education, training, scholarships, competitive examinations, and employment opportunities.
Every year, floods and river erosion in Assam destroy the lives, livelihoods, homes, and agricultural lands of thousands of people. Therefore, we expect the new government to find a permanent solution to the problems of floods and erosion. It is essential to build sustainable flood control systems, strong embankments, and improved drainage infrastructure. Scientific river management should also be adopted to address river course changes and erosion problems in the long term. The government must give greater importance to the quick rehabilitation of flood- and erosion-affected families, proper compensation, and the restoration of livelihoods.
Quality education and healthcare are the foundations of a developed society. Even today, both rural and urban areas of Assam face many challenges in these sectors. Therefore, as citizens, we expect the new government to improve the quality of schools and colleges and strengthen the educational environment. Increasing the quality of education through the recruitment of skilled and experienced teachers is also very important. At the same time, special attention should be given to modern educational resources, research facilities, and the overall development of students. On the other hand, rural health centres must be strengthened with modern facilities, and the shortage of doctors and healthcare workers should be addressed. Ensuring affordable and quality healthcare for the common people is also the need of the hour.
The youth of Assam hope to find better employment opportunities within the state itself. Therefore, we expect the new government to give greater emphasis to industrial growth, investment, and infrastructure development. Creating more job opportunities through the establishment of new industries and the expansion of the industrial sector is highly necessary. Improved roads, railways, internet connectivity, and communication systems will contribute significantly to the overall development of the state. Greater investment should also be attracted in the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME), tourism, agriculture, and technology sectors by utilising local resources and skills effectively.
Assam’s rich language, culture, and multi-ethnic harmony have shaped the unique identity of the state. Therefore, we hope that the new government will take firm steps to protect the rights and interests of indigenous communities. Greater importance should also be given to the preservation and promotion of the Assamese language, literature, art, culture, and heritage. At the same time, maintaining social harmony, brotherhood, and peace among different communities, religions, and ethnic groups is extremely important. Sensitive issues of the state should be handled responsibly, democratically, and with restraint so that the trust of all sections of society remains intact.
Particularly in major cities such as Guwahati, traffic congestion, artificial flooding, and waste management have now become major challenges. Therefore, we expect the new government to develop better and more accessible public transportation systems so that people can travel conveniently. Planned urban development is necessary to control traffic congestion, illegal construction, and unplanned urban expansion. In addition, the government should focus more on creating clean, green, and safe urban environments to improve the quality of life of citizens.
We expect a transparent, accountable, and people-oriented system of governance. Therefore, we hope that the new government will take strict and effective measures to establish a corruption-free administration. Greater importance should be given to ensuring that public services in government offices are accessible, transparent, and delivered on time. The development of digital governance systems should also make government services easily available online, reducing both time and inconvenience for citizens. Quickly addressing the grievances, problems, and needs of ordinary people is another important responsibility to maintain public trust in the government.
This massive public mandate is not merely a political victory; it reflects the deep trust, hope, and expectations that the people have placed in the government. We hope that the new government will bridge the gap between promises and action and take strong steps towards the overall development of the state. In the coming years, the success of the government will be judged on the basis of real development, job creation, improvements in education and healthcare, control of floods and erosion, and the extent to which the quality of life of ordinary people improves. A welfare-oriented, transparent, and accountable administration alone can strengthen public confidence and pave the way for the holistic development of Assam.
