The breach falls under Article 2.21 of the league’s Code of Conduct, which pertains to behaviour that could bring the game into disrepute. Parag admitted to the offence and accepted the sanction imposed by match referee Amit Sharma.
The incident occurred during Rajasthan Royals’ successful chase of 223 runs against Punjab Kings on April 28. While the Royals secured a six-wicket victory, attention soon shifted away from the result after visuals surfaced on social media showing Parag allegedly vaping inside the dressing room during the match.
Following the emergence of the footage, on-field umpires reported the matter to the match referee, prompting disciplinary action.
Under IPL regulations, Level 1 offences represent the least severe category of breaches and typically involve minor misconduct such as excessive celebrations or dissent. Penalties can include fines of up to 50 per cent of a player’s match fee and the addition of a demerit point.
In the wake of the controversy, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is also exploring other options for additional measures, with the aim of protecting the league’s reputation and maintaining professional standards among teams and players.
