TISS Guwahati Awards Degrees to 116 Students at 12th Convocation


 

GUWAHATI: The Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS) Guwahati Off-Campus held its 12th Convocation on Sunday, May 17, at the Zubeen Garg Auditorium of Krishna Kanta Handiqui State Open University, celebrating the graduation of 116 students from the 2025 batch.

The ceremony was attended by several dignitaries, including Gauhati High Court Judge Justice Soumitra Saikia as the chief guest, TISS Chancellor D.P. Singh, and TISS Vice Chancellor Badri Narayan Tiwari.

Addressing the graduating students, Justice Saikia described education as a responsibility towards social transformation and urged students to uphold constitutional values of justice, equality, and fraternity. He highlighted TISS’s longstanding contribution to public life and noted the significance of the Guwahati campus in advancing higher education and research in the Northeast.

Speaking at the event, Chancellor D.P. Singh said the institute, currently in its 90th year, has remained committed to socially relevant education and community-oriented learning. Vice Chancellor Badri Narayan Tiwari also stressed the importance of academic excellence aligned with the vision of “Viksit Bharat” and “Atmanirbhar Bharat.”

Three scholars received PhD degrees in Social Sciences, while 102 students graduated with MA and Master of Arts in Social Work (MASW) degrees across various programmes. Eleven students received Bachelor of Arts in Social Sciences (BASS) degrees after completing their third year.

A total of 27 students were awarded medals and shields during the convocation. The Chancellor’s Gold Medal for Guwahati Off-Campus for 2024-25, instituted for the first time, was awarded to Jyotirmoy Jishnu for outstanding performance in MA in Social Work (Livelihood and Social Entrepreneurship).

TISS Guwahati Off-Campus Director Jagannath Ambagudia presented the annual report for 2024-25, highlighting the campus’s academic achievements, research initiatives, and its growing recognition for Northeast-focused education and policy research.

The ceremony concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Kalpana Sarathy, Dean of the School of Social Work at TISS Guwahati Off-Campus.
