GUWAHATI: In a major breakthrough, police seized suspected Fake Indian Currency Notes (FICN) worth ₹8.8 lakh during a search operation conducted in Guwahati’s Azara area in connection with Dispur Police Station Case No. 272/26.

The operation was carried out based on disclosures made by a previously arrested accused. Police conducted a raid at a rented house in Bharalipara, Azara, where they recovered 1,760 pieces of suspected counterfeit ₹500 notes from the possession of Mijanur Rahman, son of Md. Amser Ali. Rahman is a resident of 1 No. Nadika under Laluk Police Station in Assam’s Lakhimpur district.
Apart from the suspected fake currency, police also seized nine bottles of Iodine Tincture (400 ml each), one bottle of Dextromethorphan Hydrobromide and Chlorpheniramine Maleate Syrup (100 ml), and two four-wheeler vehicles from the location.
Police said further investigation into the case is currently underway.
