According to an official order issued on Tuesday, May 26, Uttar Rangpuria has been declared the epicentre of the ASF outbreak. A 1-km radius around the village has been marked as the infected zone, while areas within a 10-km radius have been designated as surveillance zones.

The order stated that culling operations in the infected zone would be carried out over three days — May 27, 28 and 29 — as per the National Action Plan for Control, Containment and Eradication of African Swine Fever and directives issued by the Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Department, Assam.

Authorities have also directed that designated veterinary and animal husbandry officials remain present during the culling process and ensure proper disposal and sanitisation measures after the operation.

In view of the outbreak, all pork-related shops in Doomdooma Co-District have been ordered to remain closed for the next 30 days or until further notice. The administration has further prohibited the movement of pigs and pork-related items to and from other districts and neighbouring Arunachal Pradesh during this period.

Additionally, the sale of pork meat in local outlets and markets across Doomdooma Co-District has been banned for 30 days to prevent the spread of the disease.

The order, issued under provisions of the Disaster Management Act, 2005, warned that any violation would invite legal action under Section 223 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (disobedience to order duly promulgated by public servant).
