Assam Tightens Security Ahead of NEET-UG Re-Examination; Over 43,000 Candidates to Appear


 

GUWAHATI: The Assam Government has stepped up security and administrative preparations for the NEET-UG 2026 re-examination scheduled on June 21, with over 43,000 candidates set to appear at 88 centres across 17 examination districts.

Reviewing the State's preparedness, Chief Secretary Dr. Ravi Kota on Saturday, May 30, chaired a video conference with Deputy Commissioners (DCs) and Senior Superintendents of Police (SSPs), jointly with the Director General of Police, Assam. The meeting was held in pursuance of the directions of Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and in accordance with guidelines issued by the National Testing Agency (NTA).

Dr. Kota directed district administrations and police authorities to ensure a secure, transparent and candidate-friendly examination process, while personally overseeing all arrangements. He reviewed district-wise preparedness, including examination centre readiness, security deployment, CCTV surveillance, biometric verification systems, power backup facilities, transportation support and inter-agency coordination.

The Chief Secretary instructed strict implementation of the dual-layer frisking protocol and emphasised secure handling and transportation of confidential examination materials to maintain the integrity of the examination.

Special emphasis was placed on candidate welfare, with officials directed to ensure the availability of drinking water, adequate seating, functional fans, clean washrooms and shaded waiting areas at all examination centres.

Calling for heightened vigilance, Dr. Kota asked all concerned officers to remain alert and responsive to ensure the smooth and incident-free conduct of the examination across the State.
