GUWAHATI: Assam has officially launched the e-Zero FIR initiative, a new system aimed at speeding up action against cyber financial crimes by automatically converting eligible complaints into First Information Reports (FIRs).

Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced the rollout of the initiative on social media on Tuesday, June 23, describing it as a major step towards strengthening the state's response to cybercrime.
Under the new system, cyber financial fraud complaints registered through the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal (NCRP) or the cybercrime helpline 1930 will be automatically converted into Zero FIRs in eligible cases.
According to the Chief Minister, Assam is among the first states in the country to implement the initiative.
The e-Zero FIR system is designed to enable jurisdiction-free registration of cybercrime cases, allowing complaints to be acted upon without delays related to territorial jurisdiction. The initiative is also expected to facilitate faster police action and improve the chances of recovering money lost in cyber fraud.
As part of the rollout, cyber financial crimes involving amounts above ₹10 lakh will be automatically converted into Zero FIRs, enabling prompt investigation and follow-up action by law enforcement agencies.
The initiative is expected strengthen the state's cybercrime response mechanism and provide quicker relief to victims of online financial fraud.
