Delhi Hotel Fire Kills 21; Culpable Homicide Case Registered, Co-Owner Absconding


 

GUWAHATI: At least 21 people were killed and more than 40 others rescued after a fire broke out at a hotel in Delhi's Malviya Nagar area on Wednesday morning, June 3. Several of the deceased are reported to be foreign nationals, primarily from Central Asian and African countries, reports stated.

The blaze erupted at Flourish Stay B&B in the Hauz Rani locality of Malviya Nagar, triggering a major rescue and firefighting operation.

According to reports, the Delhi Fire Services received an emergency call in the morning and immediately dispatched multiple firefighting units, including water tenders, water bowsers and a quick-response vehicle. Rescue personnel evacuated more than 40 people from the building and surrounding areas.

As per reports, three people were also rescued from the basement of a nearby establishment, Lemon Green Restaurant, during the operation.

Authorities reportedly confirmed that the rescue operation has been completed and the fire has been fully extinguished. 

Meanwhile, the Delhi Police has registered an FIR under charges of culpable homicide in connection with the incident. Police said a case has been filed against hotel co-owner Luvkesh Bajaj, who is currently absconding. Search teams have been deployed to trace him.

The tragedy led to scenes of anguish outside Max Super Speciality Hospital Saket, where relatives gathered seeking information about victims and survivors.

Officials reportedly said that the exact cause of the fire has not yet been determined.
