NET exam question paper has been leaked in the country. Police have arrested two brothers named Mangilal and Dinesh Biwal from Jamwa Ramgarh in Rajasthan. They bought the question paper for Rs 30 lakh from a doctor in Gurugram on April 26, a week before the exam.
After sending the question paper on April 29 to his son, who was preparing for the medical entrance exam in Sikar, they sold the paper to a few others. The town of Sikar, about an hour and a half away from Jamwa Ramgarh in Jaipur, has now become the main center of question paper leak.
Police said the question paper was sold to an MBBS counseling agent named Rakesh Kumar Mandawaria of Sikar in Jamwa Ramgarh. Rakesh then sold the magazine for Rs 30,000 to a student from Sikar who was studying MBBS in Kerala. On the day before the exam, the student sent the question paper to his father, who runs a paying guest in Sikar, who distributed it among the students in the hostel.
Doctors from Gurugram are believed to have played an important role in the incident. Sources said the question papers were leaked from a printing press in Nashik and fell into the hands of a doctor in Gurugram through a major scam. The Rajasthan brothers then bought the paper from him and sold it to their families and other candidates. However, the Gurugram president of the Indian Medical Association said that the investigating agency has not yet contacted them about any doctor.
The arrested people knew about a month in advance that the question papers would be leaked. The arrested person, Dinesh, is also suspected to have links with a political party. According to sources, four children of their family have cleared the NIT examination last year as well.
The question paper was circulated through WhatsApp and Telegram groups by students and coaching staff at Sikar. From Nashik the paper spread through Haryana and Rajasthan to Jammu and Kashmir, Bihar, Kerala and Uttarakhand. Rakesh Kumar Mandawaria, who was arrested from Dehradun, allegedly gave the question papers to around 700 students. Another person named Yash Yadav has also been arrested for allegedly selling question papers in Haryana.
The CBI has started investigating the incident on the government’s orders. The National Testing Agency will announce the new exam dates in next 7 to 10 days. The cancellation of the exam has sparked outrage among students across the country who have demanded that Delhi’s AIIMS be given the responsibility of conducting the exam.
The CBI has already registered cases under the Prevention of Corruption Act, including criminal conspiracy, cheating, theft and destruction of evidence. Rajasthan police said 120 out of 410 questions in a chemistry sample paper among students ahead of the exam matched the original paper. A person involved in the incident has also been arrested in Nashik, Maharashtra and the CBI is currently investigating the incident.
