GUWAHATI: The Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC) has imposed a penalty of ₹4,000 on a property owner for unauthorised stocking of building materials along MT Road, acting under Division 3 of its jurisdiction.

The action is part of GMC's ongoing enforcement drive aimed at keeping public spaces clear, safe, and free of obstructions. Civic authorities have flagged the unauthorised placement of construction material on roads as a recurring issue that hampers traffic movement and public safety.
In a statement, GMC said the move underlines its continued efforts to check encroachment and obstruction of roads and other public spaces, while encouraging responsible use of civic infrastructure.
The Corporation urged citizens and property owners to refrain from dumping or storing construction material on roads and public areas, and to cooperate with civic authorities in maintaining a cleaner, safer, and more accessible city.
