During his visit, the Chief Minister was informed that the modernisation project, being developed at a cost of ₹360 crore, is currently 27 per cent complete. Construction of four new animal enclosures is expected to be finished soon. He also directed the Forest Minister to visit leading zoos across the country to study and incorporate global best practices into the ongoing development work.

As part of the same visit, Dr. Sarma examined the condition of three red pandas that were rescued from wildlife traffickers in February this year. The endangered animals are currently receiving expert medical care and rehabilitation at the zoo. Officials said the visit underscored the state government's continued commitment to wildlife conservation and rehabilitation efforts in Assam.

The Chief Minister's visit comes as part of broader efforts to upgrade the Assam State Zoo into a modern facility while strengthening the state's response to wildlife trafficking and endangered species protection.

CM Sarma was accompanied by Cabinet Minister Jayanta Malla Baruah during the visit.
