In a communication dated Thursday, June 25, Petroleum Secretary Dr Neeraj Mittal informed all states and Union Territories that sectoral restrictions on the supply of Non-Domestic Packed LPG have been removed with immediate effect.

The restrictions had been imposed during supply disruptions linked to the West Asia crisis to ensure uninterrupted availability of LPG for domestic consumers across the country.

According to the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, commercial packed LPG supplies will now return to normal levels. The government has also relaxed restrictions on bulk LPG supplies, allowing restoration of up to 50 per cent of pre-crisis consumption levels.

The ministry, however, reiterated its push towards Piped Natural Gas (PNG) as a long-term solution for commercial and industrial consumers.
Businesses that have already shifted to PNG have been directed to continue using the fuel, while those with access to PNG networks or in the process of switching will be encouraged to complete the transition.

Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs) have also been instructed to continue maintaining records of commercial and industrial LPG consumers in a unified database across the sector.

The move comes as energy supply conditions have stabilised following the disruptions caused by geopolitical tensions in West Asia, allowing the government to ease temporary restrictions imposed on commercial fuel consumption.
