In the letter dated Thursday, May 14, the IMA stated that repeated controversies surrounding the NEET-UG examination over the past few years have caused “immense mental trauma, stress, hardship, and uncertainty” for lakhs of students and their families.
Referring to the NEET-UG 2026 examination, the association warned that conducting such a large-scale examination in a single phase using physical question papers increases the risk of paper leaks and irregularities.
The IMA urged the government and concerned authorities to undertake a credible and time-bound CBI investigation into the alleged leak, arrest all culprits involved, and ensure strict punishment under relevant laws.
Among its recommendations, the association also called for decentralising the conduct of NEET-UG examinations by involving states and union territories, conducting the exam in online mode, introducing advanced technological safeguards, and restoring transparency through independent oversight.
“The process of selecting future doctors must uphold the very same principles of ethics, trust, and credibility on which the medical profession is built,” the letter stated.
The association added that protecting the integrity of medical entrance examinations is essential for preserving the quality and credibility of India’s healthcare system.
