Kamrup District Magistrate Deba Kumar Mishra has issued a prohibitory order under Section 30 of the Disaster Management Act, 2005, citing the increasing dangers posed by strong currents, sudden surges in water levels, riverbank erosion and submerged hazards.
According to the order, bathing, swimming, diving and entering the waters of all rivers within Kamrup district, including the Brahmaputra and its tributaries, have been strictly prohibited until further notice. Residents have also been advised against engaging in any activity that could expose them or others to the risk of drowning or river-related accidents.
To ensure compliance, police personnel, revenue officials, disaster response agencies and other concerned departments have been directed to closely monitor vulnerable river ghats and high-risk locations across the district.
The administration has warned that violators of the order will face legal action under the provisions of the Disaster Management Act, 2005, and other applicable laws.
Urging residents to remain vigilant, the District Magistrate appealed to the public to cooperate with authorities and prioritise safety as the monsoon season continues.
