Assam-registered cabs are currently not being allowed to enter Meghalaya. Meanwhile, Meghalaya-registered commercial cabs have reportedly been stopped near Umiam, with only local taxis being allowed to operate in the area.
Adding to the disruption, the Meghalaya Cab Association has called for a bandh on Friday, announcing that tourist vehicles registered in Meghalaya will not operate. Only local taxis will remain functional.
The restrictions have left several commuters and passengers facing difficulties while travelling between Assam and Meghalaya.
The situation follows recent attacks on vehicles in Shillong during a Khasi Students' Union (KSU) black flag rally on August 19, which led to growing concerns over the safety of commuters and transport operators.
Authorities and the administrations of both states are closely monitoring the situation and working to restore normalcy while ensuring the safety of passengers and drivers.
The Chief Ministers of Assam and Meghalaya have also spoken over the phone regarding the situation, with both states seeking to prevent further escalation and restore normal movement between the two states.
