According to Chief Secretary Ravi Kota, the proposals were discussed during a meeting of the State Level Executive Committee, which reviewed a perspective plan covering 35 activities aimed at supporting tribal communities.

Of the total proposed allocation, ₹39.15 crore (66 per cent) has been earmarked for education-related infrastructure and interventions, while ₹20.10 crore (34 per cent) has been proposed for livelihood and income-generating activities.

A key component of the proposal is the strengthening of Van Dhan Vikas Kendras (VDVKs) across Assam. The committee prioritised the establishment of 50 production, dyeing and processing centres, along with the installation of solar power systems in 50 VDVKs to improve value addition of minor forest produce and enhance income opportunities for tribal communities.

The proposal also includes support for Eklavya Model Residential Schools (EMRS), construction of hostels for Scheduled Tribe students, hostels in colleges and Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs), additional classrooms in schools located in tribal-majority areas, integrated sports facilities, wellness centres, upgraded IT infrastructure and connectivity projects linked to educational institutions.

In a post on X, the chief secretary said that the proposed interventions are aimed at improving access to education, promoting sustainable livelihoods, supporting tribal entrepreneurship and strengthening infrastructure in tribal regions of Assam.

The proposals will now be considered for funding under Article 275(1), which provides grants for the welfare and development of Scheduled Tribes and tribal areas.
