GUWAHATI: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Saturday, May 23, said the state is witnessing a major push in urban infrastructure development under the AMRUT 2.0 scheme, with 58 projects currently underway across Assam at a total investment exceeding ₹861 crore.

Sharing details on social media platform X, the chief minister said the initiative is aimed at transforming urban areas by improving civic amenities and strengthening essential infrastructure in towns and cities across the state.
“A stronger urban Assam is taking shape,” Sarma stated, highlighting that the projects focus on enhancing water supply systems, expanding sewerage infrastructure and restoring water bodies.
The projects under the Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (AMRUT) 2.0 are intended to ensure access to clean drinking water, improve sanitation facilities and support sustainable urban growth to fulfil the growing needs of urban population.
The initiative reflects the state’s broader emphasis on planned urbanisation, modern public utilities and environmentally sustainable civic development. The scheme also aims to promote cleaner urban surroundings in several towns across the state.
