GUWAHATI: The All-India Consumer Price Index for Industrial Workers (CPI-IW) for April 2026 rose by 0.8 points to reach 149.9. According to a press release issued by the Labour Bureau on May 29, the index reflects retail price fluctuation affecting industrial workers across the country.

The Labour Bureau stated that the CPI-IW is compiled every month using retail price data collected from 317 markets spread across 88 industrially important centres nationwide.
Year-on-year inflation for April 2026 stood at 4.46%, marking a significant increase compared to 2.94% recorded in April 2025. The data also showed a steady rise in inflation in recent months, climbing from 3.13% in December 2025 to 4.46% in April 2026.
Among the major components of the index, the “Food & Beverages” category registered a rise from 151.6 in March 2026 to 153.1 in April 2026. The “Pan, Supari, Tobacco & Intoxicants” segment also witnessed an increase, moving up from 172.9 to 175.0 during the same period.
The “Clothing & Footwear” group rose marginally from 155.5 to 156.2, while the “Fuel & Light” category increased from 158.0 to 159.4. The “Miscellaneous” segment also edged up slightly from 146.4 to 146.7.
However, the “Housing” index remained unchanged at 140.6 in both March and April 2026.
The overall general index increased from 149.1 in March 2026 to 149.9 in April 2026, indicating continued upward pressure on consumer prices faced by industrial workers.
