GUWAHATI: The Assam government has initiated measures to expedite the renovation of Rabindra Bhawan, one of the state's premier cultural venues, with the aim of restoring it for public use after remaining closed for nearly four years.

Culture Minister Bimal Borah on Wednesday, July 8, chaired a review meeting at Janata Bhawan with officials from the Public Works Department (PWD) and the Cultural Affairs Department to assess the condition of the auditorium and review the progress of the proposed restoration works.
During the meeting, Borah directed officials to complete the renovation on priority so that the auditorium can resume hosting cultural programmes at the earliest.
The discussions focused on key repair works, including addressing water seepage in the flooring, restoring the air-conditioning system, lighting, generator and sound system, and constructing the boundary wall.
The minister instructed PWD officials to undertake the renovation on a war footing and asked the Cultural Affairs Department to provide all necessary support for the timely execution of the project.
Highlighting Rabindra Bhawan's importance to Assam's cultural community, Borah said the renovation should be carried out carefully to ensure no shortcomings remain in the restoration process.
The meeting was attended by Additional Secretary of the Cultural Affairs Department Ranjit Swargiary, Director Rahul Chandra Das, PWD Superintending Engineer Achinta Barua, Executive Engineer Prabal Jyoti Brahmachari and other officials from the Public Works and Cultural Affairs departments.
