The 12.21-kilometre bridge project is being constructed at an estimated cost of ₹3,197 crore, with completion targeted for June 2028. The bridge will feature modern infrastructure designed to meet the region’s geographical and environmental requirements.
Once completed, the bridge is expected to significantly reduce travel time and transportation costs for residents and businesses by providing improved connectivity between Palashbari and Sualkuchi.
Sualkuchi, known for its silk and handloom industry, is expected to benefit from easier access to markets across the Brahmaputra, which could provide further opportunities for trade, commerce and tourism in the region.
The project is also expected to ease the daily commuting challenges faced by people who currently depend on longer alternate routes or ferry services. The bridge is being viewed as a major infrastructure development initiative aimed at strengthening connectivity and supporting development across lower Assam.
