GUWAHATI: A growing heap of garbage dumped along the roadside on Guwahati's Kharghuli Road has become a persistent concern for commuters and local residents, highlighting gaps in waste disposal practices.
The area, which connects nearby residential localities, has visible piles of mixed waste, including household garbage and commercial litter and plastic bags filled with waste, lying along the edge of the road.
When it rains, the waste extends until the middle of the road, affecting pedestrian movement along with bad stench throughout the stretch.
Speaking to GPlus, an official from Guwahati Municipal Corporation said that cleaning is carried out regularly, but garbage continues to be dumped.
“We carry out regular cleaning. However, residents, tenants, and shopkeepers continue to dump garbage at their convenience. GMC also collects waste, but people dispose of it at odd hours, including late at night. During rainfall, garbage flows down from the hill road and accumulates here,” the official said.
The situation continues to persist along the stretch, with garbage remaining visible on the roadside at all times.
